Hello everybody.
My name is Marco and this audio I'm going to do unboxing, hardware description, demo and extra features of RayVan Meta Smart Glasses.
Unboxing.
Well, it looks like a classic recycle package, flat box, and I'm going to give you the package dimensions.
It's about seven inches length, about three and a half inches width, and about two inches height.
Okay.
I don't feel that has any tape on it, so which means so I don't have to cut anything.
So in order to open it and also I feel some something printed on it in highlights is on the top and on the sides, on the length sides and both sides.
Okay.
So I'm going to place the box with the length side closer to me in horizontal way.
It's sitting down on my desk and the way how open the box is from the left and from the right sides, which means the width sides.
So I'm going to start opening from the left side.
Once again, I don't have to cut anything.
Basically the only thing I need is use my fingernail in order to make some pressure.
You know, like pushing out, yeah, pushing down first and then pushing out and I'm going to open.
Here you go.
I did.
I'm going to open also the right side.
Once again, I'm going to use my finger and nail, push down and push out and this one is easier.
Okay.
So what's on it?
Well, the box has like a compartment in one of the sites and which is the, you know, the paper manuals, the user guide and everything in this case is on my right side.
And on the left side is the microfiber cloth and I feel the case on it.
Okay.
So in order to take out the case from the package, that I do is with my right hand, I'm going to feel it and make some, and I'm going to push it so to my left side.
So and with my left hand, I'm going to touch it and locate it and I'm going to twist it a little bit and the way, you know, how get out a little bit and here we go.
I'm going to start pushing once again with my right fingers and here we go.
I have it here.
Well, this is the box and on my hands.
Now I have the, the case and the glasses are inside.
Now I am going to open the case and it has on the front, some kind of magnet, which allows to attach to the case with the lid, that's I can tell and the glasses are inside.
On the middle, there is some plastic tape, which is in order to keep in place the glasses in the case.
So I have to cut it or just, yeah, cut it or push up and down in order to take out the glasses from the case.
I'm going to do it.
Yes, I did.
And I have the glasses here.
Okay.
Well, here we go.
What's come on the package then?
Well, the case with the glasses inside user guide, microfiber cloth, and that's it.
There's no charger.
There's not a USB type C cable or not even AC adapter.
Hardware description.
I'm going to try to explain in the most possible way how the case and the smart glasses looks.
I'm going to start with the case.
Remember this is a charger case.
The charger case can recharge the smart glasses up to eight times.
The charger case can last up to 32 hours.
And also the charger case can be charged from zero to a hundred percent in about three hours.
The charger case looks a classic Raven leather case.
In the front side, it has a lead that goes from top to bottom in a triangular shape that ended on the bottom where is a magnetic click which allows to close the case.
On the bottom side, there is the USB type C port.
And on the back side, on the center, closer to the USB type C port, it has a button which is to pair the smart glasses.
Now it's time to describe the smart glasses.
The Raven metal looks exactly as pair of sunglasses.
It's really hard to say the looks different.
There are two models, the wafer which is rectangular shape and the headlight which is more rounded shape and weight only 48 grams.
The battery charge on the smart glasses last four hours and is built with five microphones, two speakers which is an open ear technology design, touchpad, a physical button, and towel switch, and 12 megapixel camera.
In order to give you a better description where are located everything in the smart glasses, I'm going to describe when someone is wearing.
Okay, I'm going to start with the left temple.
On the left temple, there are two microphones.
On the interior, there is the speaker grill really close to the ear, the towel switch really close to the lenses, and on the exterior, there is the Raven logo really close to the frame.
Right temple.
On the right temple, there are two microphones.
The speaker grill is located in the interior really close to the ear.
On the exterior, there is a touchpad, that touchpad is where you control all the gestures to the smart glasses.
On the upper side, there is the only physical button, press once to take a picture, press and hold to record a video, and press once to stop the record video.
And also, there is the Raven logo really close to the frame, frame where the lenses are located.
On the top left corner, there is a 12 megapixel camera.
On the top right corner, there is the LED light to let us know that you are recording.
The microphone remaining is above the nose where it's placed.
And also there is the cells where the charger case pins are inserted in order to get charged.
Demonstration.

Extra feature using Meta AI.
Note, this is a beta version, which Meta are known as Early Access and is only available for US English in United States.
I also read that this version is going to be released to the public in April.
One thing, in order you want to request Meta assistance, you always have to mention the phrase, hey Meta, or in this case, for Meta AI, you always have to say, hey Meta, look and follow for the question.
For example, hey Meta, look and tell me what is it.
That AI can recognize objects and see the world around you.
Hey Meta, look and tell me what is it.
I see a well lit bookshelf with a white statue on the top shelf, surrounded by other items.
The sun's rays are casting a warm glow on the scene.
It appears to be a miniature model of a red Ford GT car placed on top of a metallic surface near a window.
I see a person holding a brown Ray-Ban glasses case.
I see the word Wayfarer on a white box.
This appears to be a pair of Wayfarer sunglasses.
Help with the text and follow conversations.
Hey Meta, look and help me with the text.
The text on the package reads Amazon Prime and what appears to be a tracking number.
What's the tracking number?
Sure, the tracking number appears to be 09BBB.
Hey Meta, look and help me with the text.
Sure, the text appears to be a receipt.
It mentions a MacBook Air and a picture.
How much is the total amount?
The total amount is $968.67.
Very nice, a business card for one side and another, and also translated.
Hey Meta, look and help me with the text.
Sure, the text reads Raspados la cima vainilla y lotes y esquiz churros, chico.
It seems to be a list of Mexican snacks and desserts.
The text reads Para todo tipo de eventas, which roughly translates to for everything you know about events.
Also, identify bill denominations.
Hey Meta, look and tell me what you see.
I see a $20 bill with the number 20 printed on it.
Hey Meta, tell me what is this?
This appears to be a $20 bill from the United States.
I think you got a point what the AI using the camera can do.
Meta smart glasses do not require Wi-Fi connection.
The own carrier provider can handle the majority of the tasks.
So with updates, Meta voice assistance, and Meta AI.
So far I know only require Wi-Fi connection in order to do Facebook and Instagram streaming because require a stable and strong connection in order to provide better quality.
Let's talk more about the MetaView app, what you can do and what options offer to your glasses.

Conclusion.
Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses offer their own Meta-AI similar to Microsoft CNI or BIMA-AI to send the word around you.
Do I think Meta-AI is perfect?
No.
Definitely not.
But in my own opinion, my personal opinion, I've seen a huge of possibilities to get better on the near future.
In general, what do I think about the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses?
I think it's an excellent product.
Offer stereo sounds, open ear technology design, five microphones to take phone calls, send text messages and requests for the voice assistance, 12 megapixel camera to use Meta-AI to recognize objects and more things.
I think it's good, pretty good actually.
And the most important for the price and looks exactly as a pair of sunglasses, weight only 48 grams.
I think it's a really good product.
Well, if you have any questions, please write on the comments, write the law.
Thanks for listening and hope this audio helps to you.
Peace.

I'm Impressed
Very good review. There's lots of potential there.
One thing I wondered during the review is how quietly can one speak commands to the glasses? Could you even whisper the commands? I'm thinking about social situations. It would not be too odd to pick up a magazine in a waiting room, and mumble a few words to yourself as you look at it.
A very snappy pair of glasses.
These are quite fast, the voice is a bit robotic but that's ok.
Really great review.
I don’t know how long it took you to find the pull tab on the box but I didn’t find it until I went in through the end. lol. Then I noticed a convenient pull tab running right across the box. Oh well, I got in either way. R your review was so thorough and would be exactly what someone would need to make the decision to buy. Great work. Also I love the Mexican accent. It’s the country I would have moved to if I didn’t have my eye issue but wasn’t brave enough to leave the UK. Some incredible memories in Mazatlan and many places on Riviera Maya. Mazatlan was where I wanted to live though
This is a really good…
This is a really good podcast. Thanks for taking the time to do it for us.
I'm impressed with the response time of the assistant. It really out strips chat GPT.
Yeah.
He's edited some of the stuff but the response time does seam very fast.
He’s edited himself out but I think thats it.
Those response times seem about right. It’s usually around a second or so. It really is lightning fast even when describing photo’s. It takes the photo before you even finish speaking so it’s already working on it in the background. Not as good as Open AI yet but wow is it fast.
I am a little unclear about what one can do not on wifi?
Can someone still summon the Meta assistant ? And can someone still use the Meta AI not on WIFI? Good podcast.
You don’t need to be on Wi-Fi
Your phone just needs to have a data connection it doesn’t matter whether that is Wi-Fi or cellular.
It is tempting me,…
It is tempting me, especially with the full US roll out of the multimodal version comes out, apparently, later this month. I think it would work with a VPN as I think I have read of others using VPN with the beta version... Though I'm not entirely clear on that.
It would be nice if meta directly addressed users such as ourselves. It seems quite a missed marketing opportunity.
And, to get it straight, that is the reaction time or has he cut out some reaction speed? It's faster than seeing AI by far if so and, if it is edited, well, it shouldn't really have been as the reaction time is important.
Even without the vision part of the system I imagine it would be good asking for spellings, and the general trivia of the day. Shame it only supports Spotify for music and podcasts.
Reaction times.
If I ask a question like look and tell me if the TV is on, it has taken the picture while I’m still talking and the time between me finishing talking and getting the answer is about 1 second. For questions like whats the time, its basically instant and for usual LLM stuff like write a rhyming couplet about something or other, its again about 1 second. Occasionally it might be 2. I don’t know if thats because there are so few people using it right now but honestly the reaction time isn’t much different than an actual conversation. You can also increase the speed of the voice so you can get through more speech quicker. It goes up to 2x right now which is fast enough but not as quick as I have my phone.
Thanks, Andy. Reaction time…
Thanks, Andy.
Reaction time is so important. I can't remember who I was reading about, one of the big tech guys, but he used to automatically count each time a device or app was demoed between the user input and result. Chat GPT can or, maybe, could get away with it because of just how incredible the result was, but now it's feeling super laggy. Siri, well, let's not talk about Siri...
Great demo
Thanks for putting this together - it was very interesting, although it has made me even more jealous of the AI features. Sounded very snappy.
For some stupid reason I never thought to use the voice control to change or check on the volume which is nice so I will give that a try.
Regarding the voices, I went through all the British ones and found the female voices a little scary, but the male voices are quite good. The one I use sounds slightly northern. I wouldn't say it sounds robotic at all. Given how most of the Apple British voices sounds like posh newsreaders from the 80s I was pleasantly surprised.
@mr grieves
How quietly can you give the glasses commands? Can you whisper them? I'm thinking about if you were in a public setting.
Whispering.
I wasn’t sure about this as I haven’t tried it until now but you can indeed whisper to them and they understand just fine. That got me thinking how good are they with background sound. I put the radio on really high volume., volume 7 on a pair of full size 4th gen Amazon Echo’s. The glasses weren’t able to hear me whispering anymore but a low mutter was enough. I was really really impressed. I tried a few more experiments to see how low the volume had to be on the Echo’s before a really soft whisper would be enough again. Volume 3 with the echo’s 3 meters away was the answer. Really quite incredible.I actually couldn’t hear my own whisper properly but the glasses did. I hope that helps. Also just to not make out these are perfect in any way or the answer to everything. The AI isn’t as good as Open AI yet. Either in its LLM or its GPT 4 vision. It’s just not there yet but the underpinnings are incredibly solid software and hardware so once the AI goes to school, I think we’re going to be pleasantly surprised with how capable this package is.
Thank you, Andy Lane
Very good. It would be horrible to have to yell "Hey, Meta!!! Read me the menu!!!" in a nice restaurant, or worse commands in worse situations...
I'm glad you liked the demo
Hello to everybody
I’m glad you liked the podcast demonstration
Something that I have been asked about and I also forgot to mention in the audio is that they are compatible for both operating systems,, the smart glasses works for Android and iOS
The voice assistant is very snappy to respond
The microphones they have are of very good quality, so we can understand that they would capture your command, even if you whisper , compared to my second generation Apple AirPods Pro 2nd generation, the smart glasses respond much faster and understand the commands much better
Here at U S you can purchase the smart glasses from
Ray ban official web side
Meta store
Amazon
Best Buy electronics
And more retailers.
Camera and airPods
Only 1 camera and not a good one? To be more correct it need 2 cameras, Can you connect an airpods to it and if the OS would let apps be install such as be my eyes or others app will be successful. Just one AI?
VoiceOver itself?
It was a good podcast, thank you for sharing it with the community! Does anyone know if there is a way to read the responses with VoiceOver itself, or is it only self-voicing? Thanks for any info on this!
At present its self voicing.
All of the sessions are available on the Meta AI tab in the app though so while not live, the information on what was said is available to voiceover.
Thank you Andy
Armed with that, I think I may give these a try. Thank you Andy for answering!
Really Want To Try These
I really want to try these, but since we have no idea as to when or if the AI will be available in Canada, I'll have to pass. If they bring the AI to Canada, I'll jump on these right away. I have no plans to purchase them without it though.
How does it work with sizing…
How does it work with sizing? I understand there are a few different sizes and either high or low nose bridge. I've got quite high aristocratic cheekbones with a relatively lo nose bridge so glasses tend to slip down my snoz, or did you just get off the peg sizes??
Could be wrong but
Hi Guys, I think for best views we need two cameras. As far as I know was once told for depth perception you need like both eyes. So to avoid falling down holes or stairs a camera on each side would do that.
Lee
Agree. Also using airpod for privacy. Do not want the world to know what I am doing. If a sexy woman goes by and want to take a pic, want incognito mode.
I really hope that last post was a joke.
Really creepy otherwise but there doesn't seem to be anything to suggest it was humorous.
Depth perception.
Theres quite a few ways to do this. Having 2 eyes and comparing the signal between the 2 is the way our brains do it when we have 2 working eyes but it’s not the only way to get the job done. People with only 1 eye can do just fine, there brains get use to using another method, judging the size of things then comparing the range of sized things in their view to see how far away something is, Context also matters here. If someone with only 1 eye sees a small car but its on the road, its unlikely to be a toy car and cars are all roughly the same size. Also seeing the road between the subject and the car gives depth perception. AI could use this same method but far more accurately as it could do more processing than a human brain and would be less error prone. Maybe we’ll get a version in the future with Lidar too, that would give excellent depth perception. Radar is another option although it has lower resolution. Some sleep monitors already use Radar in very small devices to monitor heart beat breathing and movement throughout the night. There’s loads of ways to judge depth its just that our brain uses offset inputs. It’s fun to think about how this stuff will be done. It’s such an exciting time for technology again, we had years of just slightly faster phones and now it looks like some crazy tech promising some insane accessibility improvements may well be not far away.
Lottie
Well glad that works for you but some of us might want it to be private. Glad you enjoy your. Be safe.
Listening the phone
Hey guys! Can these glasses be used as a headset to hear the sound of VoiceOver or screen readers for Android, as well as other Apps?
Thats exactly what they do on iPhone.
I don’t have an android to try it out on but they are compatible with iPhone and android and it’s a safe assumption they do the same on both. There’s no reason I can think of to limit them on a different OS.
I'm confused... Again
The open ear... whatever it is. How much are the people around you hearing, and I'm not sure what we were hearing on the recording. I didn't even think about why we were hearing the glasses, or where the recording mic was to pick up any sound. Guess I was mesmerized by the thing reading.
The open ear design.
It’s about the same level of leakage as the Bose Frames. Maybe less. Slightly more than open backed headphones. People around you won’t be able to hear whats being said unless they’re right next to you in a quiet environment with the volume on full. Otherwise, its for your ears only.
Oh...
I was worried for a minute there. Thanks for explaining.
Not bone conducting.
They are literally just little tiny speakers that are positioned in the curve of the arm as near to your ear canal as they can possibly be. So in reality they are about the size of headphone diaphragms just further away from your ear. They work pretty well though. Better than Bose Frames. They’re not something you’d choose to listen to music on if you have headphones but they do the job just fine. Bone conduction uses transducers without diaphragms, the transducer makes contact with your skull and transmits the sound into your middle ear without using the canal or eardrum. They also leak a lot though because the headphones they are in can’t be very heavy. A heavy headset would limit leakage but wouldn’t be comfortable to wear so the compromise is sound leakage and pressing quite hard into your bone.
Diego
The Ray ban Meta are connected via Bluetooth similar to any headset device you will be able to listen the screen reading for the smart glasses speakers and also works for android as well.
Should you check for android device compatibility.
I also have a google Pixel 8 and works amazing!
Should you also do a research what is open ear design to better understand from where is the sound coming.
Where the microphone was.
Obviously I don’t know maybe the OP could come back and tell us but I’d guess he used a lavallier mic with the wire over his ear and the mic just in front of his ear, between the frame and his ear. It was a very clear recording so had to be very close and the mic wasn’t moving so I don’t think it was a large external mic he was putting his head to. He’d have had to be wearing them as they have a proximity sensor in the right arm that senses if you’re wearing them. I guess he could have taped over that sensor but the lab mic over his ear is my guess.

I got it!
If you are Concern about privacy thats why you are mention the AirPods
Should you do a research what is open ear design to better understand from where is the sound coming.
Just to give you some idea how recorded the audio demo, I have to use some small lavalier microphone really close to my ear set at 92 percent volume
Got it
I understand the difference in all these types, but I got confused by the conversation that read as if they could be heard by everyone like the speaker on an iPhone.
That bone conduction reminds me of when you go to the dentist,, and they start using one of those water jets on your top molars, and it sounds like you have bats inside your head. Assuming you've ever heard bats hunting at night.
OOooohh I know that sound.
Yep it’s a really piercing sound, both bats and the nasty dentist with the horrible drill. lol. I don’t like dentists at all.
Just got a pair, and am only having one problem.
I just got them today. Is there a group/list of Blind/LV users of the glasses to talk to each other, get support from each other, etc? If not, is that something people would be interested in? I'm having a strange issue with mine. I go to add a WiFi network, enter my correct WiFi password, and it says something went wrong. I've unpaired/re-paired, and restarted both glasses, phone and app. Other than that, I'm liking what i see so far.
Whispering and wifi
It's a shame we can't subscribe to these posts as I missed the question. I know it's been answered already, but just wanted to say when I take videos I always quietly mumble the command it hears it fine. My wife never hears me do it. There's supposed to be a light indicating that it is recording but she also tells me that she never notices it either.
I should say unlike creepy comment above, I'm not taking weird videos - just a few things when out and about, usually involving dogs.
The other thing - I did a pretty unscientific test. My wife was sitting on the sofa and I was standing next to her. She was shouting at meta to try to get it to respond and it wouldn't. This was one thing I was wondering about. (Flashbacks to that famous Windows demo of voice control where someone shouted out "format c:")
In terms of leakage, I was sitting in the car with the engine off so it was quiet. I would have had the volume cranked up and she could hear it quite clearly but she tells me that she can't otherwise hear it.
I still find the volume can be a tad quiet for noisy environments so I do usually have it set to max volume.
I didn't have any trouble setting up wifi on the glasses I'm afraid. As far as I can tell, it's not essential that you get this working - the app suggests that it is only used to import media or install updates but you can do both of these things anyway.
The app does have a help and support section in it so you could probably submit a question through there if you are having trouble. I've not needed to use it yet though.
I've not looked into whether there is any such community or not. These forums may be a good place to ask questions though.
I'm intrigued. How much can…
I'm intrigued. How much can I get a running price for? I've seen like $300 and some change is this correct? I've been looking for a method to get video footage when I'm out on the road, gigging. How are the microphones when recording? Can I expect decent quality? Yes, I know I can have someone use my phone to get footage however, I don't trust leaving my phone out of my hands and I have no viable way of getting actual, good footage from the phone.
They are great for recording video.
The only limitation is that they only record 1 minute clips maximum at present. To record a video, you just press and hold the button on the arm for a couple of seconds or say Hey Meta record video. The Microphones are one of the best things about these glasses. Just have a look on YouTube. At this price, there’s nothing that comes even close for recording a soundscape like you’d hear it live with video. The mics are on each arm so the recording very closely matches what your ears originally heard. It really is something quite special and well worth the cost on its own. Listening back, it’s like you’re back where you were.
and where does the vids save…
and where does the vids save to? Your phone's camrarole? Or the glasses. I know, it's a stupid question Lol. Sounds fantastic given the limitations! I mean, if I can go live on FB or insta which it looks like I could May do that too hehehehe. I'll be looking em up on youtube too.
The video file
Is automatically synced into the Meta View app which you can have sync automatically to your photo roll if you choose you also have the choice not to. It’s all completely accessible too.
some questions
Hello,
Thanks for the nice review. I have some questions:
- Does the AI support other languages than English?
- Is there a latency when using Voice-over with the glasses?
- Are there regulary software updates for the glasses?
Thanks
Regards
Questions.
The AI does support other languages. From memory, Spanish and Italian but I think there were others. I’m sure you could google it pretty easily. Latency is noticeable and it’s longer than I’d like but you can still use the phone through the Bluetooth connection. It’s not too slow to make voiceover useless. I’d say it’s on the slower side of Bluetooth connections but not the slowest I’ve heard. There have been 2 updates in the time I’ve owned them, about 8 - 10 weeks. TBH the features that are currently supported have excellent software support. The glasses have never frozen or slowed down, everything on the phone is accessible through voiceover with a couple of odities like the slider to change the AI’s voice speed slides left to right and doesn’t work with swiping up or down but if you know that and just use the double tap and hold then move the slider left and right, it works great. The other strange behaviour is when you add your WiFi network it seems to do something strange. I had to reset my glasses and so did someone else in this forum but you don’t actually need to use WiFi. It’s only so they have a connection for syncing and updating while in the case and after I reset and re-paired them it worked fine and has done since. These really are very well polished and functional glasses. No show stoppers at all. No shoddiness..
RE: questions.
Hello,
Thanks for your fast answers. Indeed a Google search tell me this:
WHICH LANGUAGES DOES "HEY META" SUPPORT?
Voice features available in English, Italian and French. Select voice features available only in English.
https://www.ray-ban.com/canada/en/c/frequently-asked-questions-ray-ban-meta-smart-glasses
Not sure if this is the up to date list. I hope they add more languages. Did you ever heard of other AI powered smart glasses. Like with chatGPT build in. I found this:
https://www.zdnet.com/article/solos-airgo3-hands-on/
But there is no camera build in.
Also a little bit strange that the Latency is there because I think they use BT 5.3.

Answers to Falco
- Does the AI support other languages than English?
No, currently Meta AI is in beta version and is only available for English U S.
Here the answer to the confusion Andy and Falco
META" Only SUPPORT LANGUAGES inn English, Italian and French
You can view from the Meta View app under voices.
- Is there a latency when using Voice-over with the glasses?
Regular latency of Bluetooth connection
Any 3rd party manufacture connected via bluetooth ever is going to have some latency.
I have some other bluetooth devices
AirPods Pro same Echosystem
AfterShokz open ear design
And the latency is same as any bluetooth device.
Even the AirPods Pro offer significant latency when are connected to my Google Pixel smart phone.
- Are there regulary software updates for the glasses?
The answer is yes
Meta offer software updates about every 2 months.
Meta Ray ban smart glasses was released last October 2023 and has received 2 software updates and has scheduled to release this month.
Note:
In Early Access program which is beta version Meta assistant can translate in Spanish and Germany who knows may be it will add more languages.
Good info
But the Bluetooth latency needs a bit more detail. I don’t know what latency is like on Android but on iPhone with AirPods it’s pretty low. The Ray Bans have significantly more latency than AirPods. Maybe double but it’s hard to tell with my squishy human brain and I don’t have the kit to measure. The latency is similar to aftershokz on Ray Bans if that helps. Like I said, it’s not unusable at all. It’s completely usable however it is longer than AirPods by quite a lot.
apple ecosystem
Hello Andy
iPhone and AirPods low latency
The answer and reason is because any AirPods connected to apple devices are under the same ecosystem there for performance always going to be much better comparing to 3rd party devices.
Any 3rd party bluetooth connection the latency is always notable.
So if you have a pair of AirPods give a try connecting to a windows platform and you will see the result!
